FitOldDog Seeks First Time Triathletes For Open Discussion Group – I’ve Made Most Of The Mistakes So Why Not Share Them?

“Knowing others is intelligence;
knowing yourself is true wisdom.
Mastering others is strength;
mastering yourself is true power.

If you realize that you have enough,
you are truly rich.
If you stay in the center
and embrace death with your whole heart,
you will endure forever.”

Tao te Ching by Lao-tzu, translated by S. Mitchell.

Hi folks! Welcome!

This idea was born during a bike ride with Sue (left) and Maya.

This idea was born during a bike ride with Sue (left) and Maya.

I’m currently building a business, Old Dogs in Training LLC, but I’ve no idea where it will take me. All I do know is that I plan to follow roads where I can help people the most, whilst attempting effective business strategies.

So, when Maya said, while we were out riding with Sue at the weekend, on a lovely North Carolina Fall morning, with mist on the roads and birds in the air,

“Kevin, you should run a discussion group for first time triathletes, because your comments on my cycling skills before my first race were really helpful.”

I thought about it, considered all the mistakes I had made over the last 16 years of triathlon training, including two running-induced knee surgeries, and nearly getting myself killed on my bike I don’t know how many times, and I decided to give it a go and see what happens.

Dinotte Lighting System on FitOldDog's bike

SAFETY FIRST: If you’re going to be killed during triathlon training it will probably be on the bike, so get some bright lights – I use DiNotte (took my son 2 years to persuade me!).

To see our first flyer, here’s the link.

  • The date for the first session will be a few weeks from now, and the format will depend upon expected response (for updates go to the link above).
  • If people in remote locations are interested, we could set up a Skype session, though this would take some organizing.
  • If it goes well, we would start to record the sessions, with everyone’s permission (by signing up you will be giving permission), and put them out as free podcasts.
  • Will not share anyone’s e-mail addresses or other information.

  2. DiNotte lights out on the road really help, but riding a trainer indoors helps even more.
