Hi folks, welcome to my meandering thoughts!

I don't care how strong you are, I wouldn't do this with an aortic aneurysm. In fact, I'm not sure I recommend it if you don't have one.

I don’t care how strong you are, I wouldn’t do this with an aortic aneurysm. I’m not sure I recommend it if you don’t have one.

If you have an aortic aneurysm, with or without a stent or graft, I recommend that you consider weight training rather than weight lifting. This means confining your workouts to as little as a 5-pound weight, but with some imagination you can give yourself a serious, risk-free workout.

The real trick to a happy life as an athlete is to let go of your ego, focus on the enjoyment of your sport, win if you win and lose if you lose, but smile either way. That is the road to a happy athletic life.

And do you know something important, there’s a secret hidden in these words – if you lighten up, or Erleichda, you are actually more likely to perform more effectively.

If you have an aortic aneurysm, or other life-threatening health condition, such as advanced age, in addition to chilling out, you also have to THINK. But you can still have a great time at the gym.

This is where you need to think quality weight training versus quantity weight lifting. It is remarkable what a great workout you can have with a five pound weight. As long as you watch your blood pressure as you develop your exercise program, which is easy to check nowadays, stay aware, and dance the dance, you’ll find lots of ways to use a simple weight or ball to strengthen every muscle group without risking your aorta. You just work with gravity, not against it.

It’s not about the quantity of weight you employ, but the quality of the moves you make with a weight that is safe for you.

That’s what I’m doing now, anyway, as I await my stent repair, and it feels great. Much better than doing nothing.

  1. After my heart attack I bought a blood pressure monitor and took reading around the clock for several weeks. Eventually, I found that I could estimate the result in advance by “feel”. Usually the pressure goes too low and only rarely too high. However, “how I feel in myself” does seem to give me a reasonable estimate of my blood pressure.
