Hi folks,
I know people who are so stuck on doing all of their scheduled workouts that they try to do them when they are sick. Exercise is mildly stressful, which inceases your levels of certain ‘stress hormones,’ and thus reduces resistance to disease. So, here is the FitOldDog workout program for when I have a severe head cold or the flu (as I do right now):
- Hydrate well with water or non-caffeinated teas. Infectious disease results in lots of potentially harmful chemicals in your blood due to the immune response, and increased fluid intake eliminates them more rapidly (‘The Solution To Pollution Is Dilution!”).
- Eat whatever you feel right eating.
- Sleep as much as you can.
- Rest. Even reading is tiring, and computers doubly so.
- Once you are better, wait a couple of days and then resume your training.
- Don’t try to make up the workouts, and if necessary get your coach to reset your training if you missed critical components of your plan.
That’s it! Pretty simple, and like most simple things it is very hard to put into practice if you are psyched about your training.
