FitOldDog’s Training Diary For The Aorta Patient

Hi folks, RE: Dead link from my book for the Aorta Patient. I was planning some marketing of this book, as a change from plantar fasciitis data analysis. This decision was triggered by a recent conversation with a friend, about an aorta patient story. Then I thought, "Boy, I wrote it several years ago. Maybe I should read it, again." I did read it again, and was pleasantly surprised to find that it ... Read more

Countdown To Maryland IronmanI now feel that I'm getting back on track, as I continue deal with aortic surgery recovery (which takes longer than you think) though I may have to sort out a minor imbalance, which lies at the back of my recent bouts with a tight right calf, and plantar fasciitis in my left foot (not really in the foot, in the whole leg, but the symptoms appear in the heel!). I sure am glad we developed ... Read more

Ironman Training Diary

-  Day 222 - still feeling beat up, so limited my workout to 1,500 yard steady swim, which felt great. Focus on enjoying the feeling of swimming. Because of decreased capacity because of the hernia as well as the trauma of the two surgeries, I have lost a fair amount of muscle mass, strength, and tone. Balancing Your Inner And Outer Journeys, A Key To Successful Aging And Lifelong Endurance Training

Inner Journey Body Meditation by FitOldDog: sit cross-legged and interlace your fingers. Fine! Now reverse your legs, upper knee lower and vice versa, and reverse your hand interlace, lower thumb to upper - it will feel very weird, even uncomfortable, at first, but relax, watch the tension melt away over a period of 15 mins. You'll discover areas of tightness in your body you never knew were there, and they'll melt ... Read more

FitOldDog Decoded His Running Injury, Plantar Fasciitis (#2); In Time For Mont-Tremblant Ironman?

When undertaking training for an endurance race, especially when it comes to running injury, it rarely pays to change anything at the last minute. Sometimes you are forced to adjust, such as when struggling with a tight calf, so work it through carefully, and pull out if you have to - live to fight another day. But, you might say, "Wait a minute, endurance races are 50-90% mental, so how can I avoid being ... Read more

Recovery From Major Surgery May Take Longer Than You Think, But I Suspect That Luis Has It Nailed

“If I had an hour to solve a problem I'd spend 55 minutes thinking about the problem and 5 minutes thinking about solutions.”  Albert Einstein Hi folks, welcome to my thoughts! I do love to think, and I especially like it when I'm proven wrong with respect to some set idea in my head. Of course, I'll kick and scream before I change - hell, I'm a misoneist, like the rest of us. I don't do so well with ... Read more
